Why Idaho Pasture Pigs?

  • Idaho Pasture Pigs are ideal for homesteads and small farms.  Unlike traditional breeds, their shorter, upturned snouts allow them to graze on grass rather than root up pastures. This not only protects the land—which is especially important for farms that rely on healthy pasture—but it also helps cut down on grain costs. IPPs naturally supplement their diet with grass and hay, which contributes to healthier, more flavorful, and better-marbled meat that’s higher in omega-3s.
  • Idaho Pasture Pigs are known for their gentle nature.  Both boars and sows have excellent temperaments, and sows make calm, attentive mothers with strong, fast-growing piglets. Their manageable size—boars average 300–400 lbs. and sows 250–300 lbs.—makes them easier to care for year-round, especially compared to larger, more feed-intensive breeds.
  • IPPs typically reach a market weight of 200–250 lbs. and are ready for processing between 8–10 months of age.
